My name is Dr Julie Wooler and I have a great passion for tourism, having lived in the South West of England for all of my adult life.
I have many years of experience working in the tourism industry both on the service side and at destination management level and it's with these experiences which lead me to undertake an MSc in Tourism, Development & Policy at the University of Exeter. It was during my Masters that I became focussed on the importance of protecting the environment in order that tourism can be sustained for future generations and where my interest in encouraging greater levels of sustainable behaviour amongst tourists was generated.
In 2009 I was fortunate to be awarded with an European Social Research Council (ESRC) scholarship to undertake my PhD. My thesis explored the potential of social marketing in encouraging greater levels of sustainable behaviour amongst tourists in two case study areas in South West England.
I have worked on a number of tourism research projects, related to understanding tourist behaviour and how best to encourage a greater commitment to sustainability whilst in the holiday destination. I have attended and communicated my research at both international and national conferences.
